The Red Wings are coming off of a controversial loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday. It was another instalment of “what is goaltending interference?”

The loss snapped a brief two-game winning streak for Detroit, who are 4-6-1 in the last month. Tonight will be their third of four meetings with the Boston Bruins and they come in at 0-1-1 in the first two. They were outscored 6-to-3 in those games.

The Bruins come in as the hottest team in the NHL so the Red Wings will be hard pressed to record another two points. Through their first 17 games, the Bruins had the fourth worst record (6-7-4) in the NHL. Since mid-November, the Bruins are 25-5-4 (54 points) which is the best record in the league during that time.

The Red Wings are expected to ice the same lineup as Saturday, as along as Darren Helm is good-to-go. Helm missed Monday’s practice with a lower-body injury and is officially listed as a game-time decision.

The Red Wings offence has been relatively quiet as of late and that can be attributed to the lack of success the Dylan Larkin line has had. Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou and Tyler Bertuzzi have each been held pointless in their last five games. If Detroit is going to win, this line needs to produce.

The Red Wings catch a break with Brad Marchand out tonight. Marchand will be serving the fifth and final game of his suspension for elbowing Marcus Johansson of the New Jersey Devils—a play that resulted in a concussion for Johansson.

Despite not having Marchand in the lineup, Patrice Bergeron has four points (2G / 2A) in four games and has six goals and five assists (11 points) in his last eight games. David Pastrnak has still been on-fire as well. The young winger comes in riding an eight-game point streak, posting four goals and six assists (10 points).

Thankfully rookie defenseman Charlie McAvoy is back to 100 percent after an irregular heart rhythm scare. McAvoy played 18:51 TOI on Saturday and is fine for tonight as well.

Jimmy Howard vs. Tuukka Rask.

Despite not having a back-to-back to speak of this week, head coach Jeff Blashill will go back to Howard even though Petr Mrazek has been lights out recently. Howard has lost his last four starts while posting a putrid 4.61 GAA and .861 SV%.

Rask on the other hand has been absolutely sensational. Rask had a slow start to the year, going 4-8-2 with a 2.84 GAA and .899 SV% in his first 14 starts. Since then, he has not lost in regulation in his last 20 starts while posting a 1.56 GAA, .944 SV% and two shutouts. He is also 2-0-0 with a 1.51 GAA and .953 SV% in two games vs. Detroit this season.
