The Red Wings had an absolute stinker before the All-Star break, losing 5-1 to the Blackhawks last Thursday. Detroit has now lost six of their last eight games (2-5-1) and are 19-21-8 through 48 games—fifth in the Atlantic Division and 10 points back of the Philadelphia Flyers for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.

The All-Star break allowed the Red Wings to get healthy as they are expected to get Trevor Daley (lower-body), Justin Abdelkader (lower-body) and Darren Helm (leg) back in the lineup tonight.

Mike Green was the Red Wings representative in the All-Star game and he had a good showing. Green had two goals and one assist with the Atlantic Division, who went on to lose to the Pacific Division in the final.

With Daley, Abdelkader and Helm all back in, Xavier Ouellet, Luke Witkowski and Dominic Turgeon will come out of the lineup.

After picking up just one assist in his first 27 games with the Red Wings, Daley has collected six points (3G / 3A) in his last 16 games. Abdelkader started playing better before he got hurt as well, scoring goals in each of his last two games. Abdelkader now has eight goals and 13 assists (21 points) in 41 contests. Helm on the other hand, has had a rough offensive season. Helm has been held goalless in his last 14 games and has just 13 points (4G / 9A) in 41 games.

The Sharks are going to be without Joe Thornton (knee) for the third straight game. With Thornton out, Chris Tierney has been moved up the lineup and he comes into play on a bit of a tear. Tierney has collected four goals and six assists (10 points) in his last 13 games. Logan Couture will be leaned on heavily as well—he has a four-game point streak (4G / 1A) and leads the Sharks in goals (21) and is second in points (37).

Brent Burns leads the team in points and has really picked things up after a sluggish start to the season. Burns was held goalless with eight assists in his first 19 games, but has since picked up eight goals and 26 assists (34 points) in his last 30 games—tied for fourth in the NHL over that span (trailing only Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon and Brad Marchand).

Petr Mrazek will be back in net for the Red Wings. Mrazek stopped 17 of 18 shots after replacing Jimmy Howard in the loss to the Blackhawks. Mrazek has been the much better goalie as of a late, stopping 109 of the last 113 shots (.965 SV%) that he has faced in his past four outings. Mrazek is 1-2-0 with a 2.26 GAA and .923 SV% in four career starts vs. the Sharks.

Aaron Dell is expected to start for the Sharks. Martin Jones (undisclosed) returned to the crease last night so Dell will likely start the second game of their back-to-back. Dell has been really good this season but has been lit up recently—he has allowed 11 goals on 52 shots (.789 SV%) in his last two starts. This will be his first career start vs. Detroit.
