The Red Wings are coming off of a 3-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, marking their fourth loss in five games.

The Red Wings have been streaky all season and after a four game winning streak at the start of January, where they averaged 3.25 goals for per game, the Red Wings sit at just 2.00 goals for per game over this five game stretch.

Tonight the Red Wings head out on a one-game road trip to New Jersey. The Devils have been one of the biggest surprises in the NHL this season, but have struggled recently. New Jersey enters Monday’s game having lost seven of their last nine games (2-4-3). They are also dealing with some injury issues right now, especially between the pipes.

The Red Wings continue to be riddled with injuries so the reinforcements from Grand Rapids (AHL) are up-and-down the lineup right now.

Luke Glendening (hand) could be back in the lineup tomorrow, Justin Abdelkader (lower-body) will be out for at least the next two games and Darren Helm will be out until after the All-Star break up front. That means David Booth (who was placed on waivers earlier today), Luke Witkowski and Dominic Turgeon will remain in the lineup in New Jersey. Turgeon has yet to record a point and has just one shot while averaging 8:25 TOI/GM in three games since being called up. Booth being waived means Turgeon may remain in the lineup even if Glendening does return tomorrow.

On the blue line, the Red Wings will be without Trevor Daley (lower-body) for two games, so everyone’s favourite Griffen, Joe Hicketts will make his NHL debut tonight. Hicketts offensive numbers in the AHL are down this season—he had 34 points (7G / 27A) in 73 games last season and is on-pace for just 14 points this year.

The Devils did not hold a morning skate so their lineup is a bit unclear. Brian Gibbons broke his thumb on Saturday so he will be replaced by Blake Coleman tonight. However, Taylor Hall missed Monday’s practice as well so his status is unclear. It could very well have been a maintenance day, so it doesn’t look like the Red Wings will catch a break tonight.

Sami Vatanen was the Devils big mid-season pickup and it has been a great addition so far. After picking up just one assist in his first 11 games with the Devils, Vatanen has settled in as of late. The Finnish defenseman has picked up nine points (1G / 8A) in his last 10 games.

Petr Mrazek will get the nod for the Red Wings. Mrazek stopped all 27 shots that he faced in the 4-0 shutout win over the Blackhawks on January 14th. It was surprising that Jeff Blashill went to Jimmy Howard right after Mrazek’s shutout, but the Red Wings No.2 will get another look tonight.

Cory Schneider will be back between the pipes for the Devils. Schneider has missed the last three games with an illness but with Keith Kinkaid landing on IR with a groin injury this weekend, Schneider is expected to be back in. Ken Appleby, who stopped all 24 shots that he faced after replacing Kinkaid on Saturday, will backup Schneider. Schneider has struggled recently, losing his last five games while allowing a combined 21 goals on 159 shots (.868 SV%).
