A day after the Red Wings were absolutely dominated in Pittsburgh, they went into Chicago and Petr Mrazek pitched a 27-save shutout to beat the Blackhawks 4-0.
It wasn’t a dominating performance, but Mrazek was excellent and the Red Wings’ young guns played very well after a rough afternoon in Pittsburgh. Tyler Bertuzzi capped off the win by scoring his first career NHL goal.
The Red Wings come in having won five of their last seven games and are home for five of their next six games. Detroit is sitting seven points behind the New York Islanders for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, with two games in-hand.

The Red Wings have been on a nice little roll as of late and they have been led by exactly who you think they’d be led by. Henrik Zetterberg and Andreas Athanasiou have picked up seven points each across the last seven games while Gustav Nyquist has six and Anthony Mantha, Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi sit at five.
On Tuesday afternoon, head coach Jeff Blashill announced that both Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader (both lower-body injuries) will miss at least the next two games (tonight and Saturday). Blashill said that tests revealed no structural damage for either of them, but the Red Wings medical team doesn’t have a timetable for their return at this time.
With Helm and Abdelkader out, Luke WitkowskiDominic TurgeonDavid Booth will remain as their fourth line. Turgeon will be appearing his second career NHL game—he had one shot and three blocked shots in 9:01 TOI in his NHL debut on Sunday.

The Stars reportedly come into tonight with some bumps and bruises after beating the Boston Bruins in overtime during yesterday’s Martin Luther King Day matinee. Tyler Seguin’s game winning goal was so pretty it’s worth sharing:
Jason Spezza was a healthy scratch on Monday, but the Stars announced that he will play tonight in Detroit. Spezza has not scored a goal in his last 14 games, picking up just five assists over that time.
The Stars have some decent depth but the lean heavily of their top-4, Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, Alexander Radulov and John Klingberg. All four of them have 40-plus points—Benn (42), Seguin (41), Klingberg (41) and Radulov (40)—and fifth on the team is Mattias Janmark is fifth with just 23 points (10G / 13A).

BETWEEN THE PIPES

Jimmy Howard vs. Ben Bishop.
Despite Mrazek posting a shutout against the Blackhawks, the Red Wings will go back to Howard tonight. Howard allowed four goals on 36 shots in Saturday’s loss in Pittsburgh, but it would have been like 10-0 if it weren’t for Howie. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for Howard, who comes into tonight’s game at 10-6-5 with a 2.63 GAA and .915 SV% in 20 starts at Little Caesars Arena.
In Bishop’s last start, he allowed three goals on 22 shots in a loss to the Avalanche on Saturday. With Kari Lehtonen starting yesterday, Bishop will go tonight. He has won four of his last six starts with an impressive 1.85 GAA, .942 SV% and one shutout. Bishop has been absolutely dominant in his career vs. Detroit—going 12-4-0 with a 1.92 GAA and .928 SV% and one shutout in 18 games.
