WGD: GAME 34: RED WINGS @ FLYERS
By Brock Seguin
6 years agoThe Red Wings walked away with a ‘W’ last night in Brooklyn despite being outshot 37-22 by the Islanders. Petr Mrazek was a surprise starter but stood tall in his return to the crease, turning away 34 of the 37 shots to record his third win of the season.
With Mrazek starting last night, Jimmy Howard is expected to go tonight as the Red Wings face a Flyers team that has won six of their last seven games. The Flyers are in the difficult Metropolitan Division and come in seventh in the division despite having a better record than the Red Wings.

GUSTAV NYQUIST | HENRIK ZETTERBERG | ANTHONY MANTHA |
TOMAS TATAR | DYLAN LARKIN | ANDREAS ATHANASIOU |
DARREN HELM | FRANS NIELSEN | JUSTIN ABDELKADER |
LUKE WITKOWSKI | LUKE GLENDENING | MARTIN FRK |
The Red Wings are expected to go with the same 18 skaters as last night but the lines should look different than they were at puck-drop yesterday. Despite starting the game on the fourth line, Anthony Mantha eventually moved up to the top line with Henrik Zetterberg and Gustav Nyquist. Andreas Athanasiou stayed on the second line and should be back there tonight. This is as good as Red Wings fans can hope for a top-6 so expect Jeff Blashill to ruin that for us immediately.
Player To Watch:
Zetterberg comes into tonight on a four-game point streak, picking up one goal and six assists (seven points) over that span.

The Flyers spent most of the season with a top line of Claude Giroux–Sean Couturier–Jakub Voracek, but recently swapped Voracek with Wayne Simmonds.
The trio of Giroux-Couturier-Simmonds has a 50.92 CorsiFor% but have only scored two even-strength goals in 94:25 TOI. Moving Voracek with former Red Wing Valtteri Filppula and Michael Raffl has seen their second line be a little more productive. The trio has a 46.94 CF% but has outscored their opposition 4-2 in 85:40 5v5 TOI.
Player to Watch:
Shayne Gostisbehere has three goals and three assists (six points) in his last seven games and has picked up 25 points (6G / 19A) in 30 contests—placing him among the most productive defensemen in the NHL.
