The Vancouver Canucks are in town to take on the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesers Arena. This match-up will feature two of the NHL’s most prominent rookies, Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson and Detroit’s Dennis Cholowski.

The Canucks are coming off an emotional win which saw them defeat the Colorado Avalanche 7-6 in overtime, lead by 5 and 4 point performances from Pettersson and Brock Boeser respectfully. The Wings on the other hand are looking to avenge Saturday night’s and get back in the win column.

One notable lineup change is moving Cholowski down to the third pair. Originally on the first pair, his last game versus Edmonton was not one he’ll want to remember. Jeff Blashill obviously wasn’t pleased either, and will use this demotion as a learning experience for the 20 year-old defensemen.

Detroit will be down 4 skaters tonight: Andreas Athanasiou, Jonathan Ericsson, Frans Nielsen, and Thomas Vanek all out. updates and details on their injury status can be found here.

Coming into the game, Dylan Larkin is riding a 4 game point streak, where he has put up 8 points in that span. Same goes for Gustav Nyquist, who has 5 points over the last 4 games. Michael Rasmussen is starting to get hot also. He currently is on a 3 game point streak.

This Canucks squad has been a major surprise to start the season, as they currently are tied for fourth place in the entire NHL. They have had major success on the penalty kill, sitting 7th in penalty kill percentage. One of the biggest weaknesses is getting rubber on net. They average the 3rd least amount of shots per game in the league.

Jimmy Howard will be in net for The Red Wings, making his 11th start of the year. In his last two appearances he has come away with two wins, and looks to make it three tonight.

On the other end, while not confirmed, Jacob Markstrom will most likely be in the cage for Vancouver. He’s been a mixed bag this season. He has 4 games this season with under a .900 save percentage, but with every other game posting over a .920 save percentage. Detroit’s fate tonight could be decided by which Markstrom they get tonight.
