Looking for a legal way to watch Grand Rapids Griffins Matt Lorito and Matt Puempel in the AHL All-Star festivities?
You’re in luck.
The American Hockey League announced the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic will air live on NHL Network in the United States, and Sportsnet and Sportsnet NOW in Canada. The festivities will take place at the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial Auditorium in Utica, New York.
Just hours after the NHL All-Star Game, the AHL All-Star Skills Competition begins at 8 p.m., Jan. 28, and the AHL All-Star Challenge begins at 7 p.m., Jan. 29.
Playing for the Central Division team, Puempel (13 goals, 17 assists in 30 games) and Lorito (11 goals, 15 assists in 30 games) are first and second, respectively, on the Griffins in points.
In the game, the four division teams will play in a round-robin tournament featuring six 3-on-3 games of 10 minutes each. The two teams with the best records will play for the championship, a six-minute game also played at 3 on 3. The Central Division won each of the past two All-Star Challenges.
The two-day event also will be streamed to subscribers on AHL Live.
More than 93 percent of All-Star Classic participants have played in the NHL, including Jake Allen, Artem Anisimov, Patrice Bergeron, Chris Kunitz, Braden Holtby, Zdeno Chara, P.K. Subban and Tyler Johnson.
