The Red Wings’ prospects were back in action Saturday night, taking on the Dallas Stars in their second game of the Traverse City prospects tournament. The buzz going into the game was around Detroit’s newly form top line of Michael Rasmussen, Joe Veleno, and Filip Zadina – all former first round picks. Dallas entered the game coming off a 7-5 victory over the New York Rangers, headlined by top-prospect Miro Heiskanen.
Rasmussen got things going with a dirty little goal on the powerplay. He pounced on a Dennis Cholowski’s point shot that came out in front to make it 1-0.
Cholowski would get in on the fun as well, scoring his own powerplay goal in the second period.
One of Detroit’s biggest problems from their first contest against the Minnesota Wild was the powerplay. So its good to see them come back strong on the man-advantage.
The Wings’ would hold down the fortress for the rest of the game. Former Michigan Wolverine Tony Calderone got Dallas on the board in the third, but that is all that would get past Kaden Fulcher. Rasmussen would add an empty netter to seal a 3-1 victory for the good guys.
The Wings top guns showed up in a big way with all their former first round picks recording at least one point. Their next outing will be against the New York Rangers on Monday at 4:00 PM EST.
