The Detroit Red Wings have traded forward Scott Wilson to the Buffalo Sabres for a 2019 fifth round pick.
Earlier this season the Red Wings acquired Wilson and a 2018 third round pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Riley Sheahan and a 2018 fifth round pick.
Upon arriving in Detroit, the 25-year-old winger failed to record a point in 17 games. Wilson averaged just 7:28 TOI/GM in Detroit and was basically glued to the fourth line. Wilson had an poor 45.2 CorsiFor% and a -3.7 relative Corsi, so he didn’t bring a lot to the lineup.
The Red Wings didn’t really need Wilson after Martin Frk returned from injury and David Booth playing better hockey since recently. General Manager Ken Holland said that they will not recall anyone from Grand Rapids (AHL) for Tuesday’s game, but will decide on a possible call-up on Wednesday.
This trade doesn’t do much for the Red Wings in the short-term and this basically makes the original trade Sheahan for a third round pick, which is reasonable when you consider he had just 13 points (2G / 11A) in his final 88 games with the Red Wings. The 25-year-old has seven points (1G / 6A) in 19 games with Pittsburgh since the trade.

Practice Update:

Following a 10-1 beat down in Montreal, the Red Wings had a few new-look lines and pairings at Monday’s practice.
