The World Cup of Hockey roster namings continue, and the Red Wings are involved yet again, as Tomas Tatar has been named to the “Team Europe” superclub.

Obviously, Tatar has no prior experience with Team Europe, seeing as the concept was invented out of thin air. As this is an NHL-run tournament, the league felt it was best to combine some of the non-powerhouse European Nations into a super team. Players from Denmark, Slovakia, Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia, and Norway are listed on the initial roster.
That’s not to say that Tatar has no international experience, however. His coming out party was on the international stage, as a matter of fact; he was Slovakia’s best player in the 2009 World Juniors, where he picked up 7 goals and 4 assists in 11 games. He went back to the tournament in the following year, and has also played in the 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2015 World Championships, several exhibition games, and the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Tatar has just one international medal in his career to date; a silver in the 2012 World Championships. Playing on a hybrid team would be an interesting way of getting a second one, but hey, anything’s possible, right?
This year’s tournament begins on September 17th and will end on October 1st. All games will be played at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Canada.
