Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
This week in 1985 (June 24), the Detroit Red Wings named Harry Neale as the clubs new head coach replacing Nick Polano, who was fired three days earlier.
Neale, then 48, didn’t last long as head coach only standing behind the bench for 35 a dismal 35 games. How bad were those games? Well, the Red Wings went an underwhelming 8-23-4 in that time.
As quick as he was in, he was out as the Red Wings faltered hard out of the gate. It was a tumultuous time for the club, and in stepped Brad Park behind the bench who didn’t fare much better.
In the remaining 45 games, Park’s Red Wings went 9-34-2.
