Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday!
On this day in 1995, Detroit Red Wings netminder Mike Vernon extended his undefeated streak to 13 games — a new team record — by going 11-0-2.  alt
The Red Wings were paid a visit by the St. Louis Blues with the final score ending in a 3-3 tie. The previous record was held by Terry Sawchuk, who, in 1952, went 8-0-4 over a 12 game stretch.
Vernon ended up extending the streak after securing three more wins in games against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, and San Jose Sharks eventually extending the streak to an impressive 13-0-3.
The streak was started on February 12th, with a four-all tie against the LA Kings. Vernon, who was 31 when the streak started and 32 when it finished, was acquired the previous offseason by the Red Wings from the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenceman Steve Chiasson.
