Throwback Thursday: On this day in 1987, five Steve Yzerman points lead Detroit Red Wings to victory

Welcome back to another edition of Throwback Thursday! In case you missed last week’s edition, we’re bringing back a much-beloved series across the Nation Network.
So, without further ado…
On this day in 1987, Steve Yzerman scored five points as the @Detroit Red Wings topped the Quebec Nordiques 6-3
Yzerman helped set the tone early for the Wings as he not only opened the scored 1:57 into the game on the powerplay, but also notched four of five points in the first frame.
Detroit got a goal from Brent Ashton at 3:44 in the first with a Yzerman assist, before Stevey scored again at the 9:48 mark. He got his fourth point, an assist, with two seconds left in the first on a Darren Veitch goal.
“The Red Wings, 26-25-8, increased their Norris Division lead to three points over idle Minnesota. The Nordiques, winless in their last three, fell to 3-29-8 in the Adams Division where they are attempting to fight off last-place Buffalo for the final playoff spot,” penned The Associated Press.
The 21-year-old Yzerman finished the year with 31 goals and 59 assists in 80 games played, before he went on a run-scoring an unbelievable 814 points in his next 524 games over the next six seasons.
