The Red Wings played their last game at Joe Louis Arena on the April 9, 2017. However, that wasn’t the last game played at The Joe. This week, the Red Wings held their Fantasy Camp that allowed fans to spend 3 days on and off the ice with Wings alumni. Some notable alumni that participated in the camp are Mathieu Dandenault, Kirk Maltby, Larry Murphy, Anders Ericsson and Darren McCarty.
On the 3rd day, the campers and alumni were divided into two teams, Red vs White. The White team was heading towards the W, leading 10-9 when defensemen Mathieu Dandenault scored the game tying goal on his only shot of the game with 6.1 seconds left.
Speaking to Dana Wakiji at NHL.com, Dandenault joked about his goal: “Unlike all the other pros that were playing, that was actually my first shot on net out of the whole tournament, all the games,”
Team White went on to win the game in overtime 11-10. The game winning goal was scored by one of the Fantasy Campers.
To commemorate the success he had in the last game played at Joe Louis Arena, Mathieu Dandenault took a little souvenir.
The ice is being removed from Joe Louis Arena on the August 12 and I assume will be put in little coolers and sold on the hockey black market (or eBay) for thousands of dollars, I suggest you should start saving now.
