I’m back again with another weekly update of the Detroit Red Wings prospects. Things last week went pretty great once again for one Evgeny Svechnikov, and the Grand Rapids Griffins filled their boots on the weekend with a pile of goals.
Let’s check out how the organization’s crop of youngsters performed throughout the various leagues, who’s catching fire and who’s cooling off.

After enduring a five game losing streak, the Griffins turned the tables last weekend and absolutely lit up the Rockford Ice Hogs by a score of 9-1, followed by a 4-3 overtime win the following day. Naturally, that leads to piles of points for Red Wings prospects.
  • Mitch Callahan led the way on Friday, with a hat-trick and two assists. He added another assist on Saturday to cap a six-point weekend. The 24-year old winger passed five Detroit AHL prospects on the Grand Rapids leaderboard, and now trails only Martin Frk and Anthony Mantha in points.
  • Speaking of Martin Frk, he had a solid weekend as well, collecting two goals in each of the two games, boosting his team-leading goal total to 18 on the season. The weekend boosted his NHLe metric to an even 30.0, which trails only Evgeny Svechnikov.
  • Anthony Mantha had a bit of a quiet weekend, collecting only a single assist. Frk has now tied him in points for the team lead.
  • Xavier Ouellet collected a goal and an assist in Friday’s 9-1 drubbing, but added no points on Saturday.
  • Tomas Nosek had a goal in each game on the weekend, bringing his total to seven for the season.
  • Robbie Russo had one assist on the weekend.
  • Andreas Athanasiou did not dress for either game last weekend. Nor did Zach Nastasiuk.
  • Tyler Bertuzzi had no points in the 9-goal outing on Friday, but did score once in Saturday’s game.
  • Nick Jensen collected three assists over the two games, while Ryan Sproul had one assist. Colin Campbell did not manage any points.
  • Louis-Marc Aubry didn’t collect any points, while playing in only one game (Friday).

  • Evgeny Svechnikov had another monster week. He played in three games, scoring goals in each of them. Because that wasn’t impressive enough on its own, apparently, he added four assists, bringing his point total for the past week to seven. He’s just so good, it’s not even fair.
  • Dominic Turgeon, possible intimidated by the thought of competed with Svechnikov, played in three games in the past week and scored a single goal. He has now dipped below the point-per-game threshold.
  • Joe Hicketts had a decent week, putting up three points (a goal and two assists) in three games played.
  • Adam Marsh played twice in the past week, putting up three points, including a two-goal effort on Wednesday against Charlottetown.
  • Vili Saarijärvi had two games on the weekend, and tallied one assist. He also took 10 shots on net, all 10 of which were credited as scoring chances, which is pretty damn impressive.

  • James de Haas skated in two games for Clarkson Univeristy last weekend, tallying one assist, while also taken two shots on net.
  • Nebraska-Omaha did not have any games last week, but it’s unclear if David Pope would have played anyways – he’s missed the last four games, probably due to an injury.
  • Western Michigan also had no games last weekend, so Mike McKee saw no action.
