Add two more names to the Detroit Red Wings’ throng of 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship attendees.
Red Wings prospects @Sebastian Cossa and @Donovan Sebrango have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2022 World Juniors, Hockey Canada announced Sunday evening. The tournament will take place in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta between Dec. 26, 2021 and Jan. 5, 2022.
Cossa was the second player selected by the Red Wings in the first round of the 2021 NHL Draft (he went nine spots after sixth-overall pick @Simon Edvinsson, who will represent Sweden at the World Juniors). The 19-year-old goaltender has a .924 save percentage and a 15–3–3 record in 21 Western Hockey League games with the Edmonton Oil Kings this season.
The Red Wings selected Sebrango, 19, with the first pick of the third round at the 2020 NHL Draft. Sebrango is already midway through his second American Hockey League season — he was able to make the jump as an 18-year-old as a result of the Ontario Hockey League cancelling its 2020–21 campaign — and has three assists in 20 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Here is the full list of the Red Wings prospects confirmed to be attending the 2022 World Juniors:
Canada: Sebastian Cossa (G), Donovan Sebrango (D)
SwedenSimon Edvinsson (D), Theodor Niederbach (F)
Finland: Eemil Viro (D)
Additionally, Red Wings prospects Carter Mazur and Red Savage remain in the hunt for spots with Team USA.
