During Friday afternoon the Red Wings made a few roster moves. The first notable one being the call-up of Harri Sateri from the Grand Rapids Griffins, with Jimmy Howard being out due to illness tonight. Something must be spreading around the room, with both Frans Nielsen and Gustav Nyquist both missing time with “illness.” Some have speculated it is really to protect the teams unrestricted free-agents from injury without losing their pride. But this could be for real.
Sateri will back-up Jonathan Bernier tonight against the Minnesota Wild. Sateri has played well in his debut season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, and prove to be a decent back-up option with the Florida Panthers last season. But the hope in that Bernier will be able to hold down the fort versus the Wild.
The other move was sending rookie Christoffer Ehn to the Griffins. Ehn has surprised many by cracking the Red Wings roster this season, and has played relatively well in his fourth line role. The 22 year-old has 7 points in 44 games, but has held his own in his first year in North America.
Ehn being sent down signals the return of Justin Abdelkader and Darren Helm to the lineup. Making room for them meant Ehn was the odd man out.
