Sabres at Red Wings | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Red Wings erased a 2-0 deficit with three third-period goals last Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens, improving to 3-0 against Montreal on the season with a 4-3 win over the Canadiens at home. Detroit carried the momentum of that win into a 3-2 shootout victory against the Ottawa Senators on Friday night. With three straight wins at home, Detroit is now 8-14-1 at Little Ceasar’s Arena; not great, but far better than the 4-16-2 the team is on the road in 2019-20.
Before winning their last two games against Eastern Conference foes, the Red Wings were 1-13 in their previous 14 games against in-conference opponents per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Jack Eichel opened 2019-20 with seven goals and 10 assists in the month of October, leading the Sabres to an impressive 9-2-2 record out of the gate. Eichel has continued to play at a high level since then as he leads the team by a comfortable margin in both goals (27) and assists (31), but as a whole Buffalo has gone just 10-17-5 since its hot start to the season. Most recently, the Sabres are 3-8-1 over their last 12 games with six straight losses on the road.
Sunday night’s total is set at six goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 8-3 in the last 11 games between the Red Wings and the Sabres.
In what has been a lost season for the Red Wings, Detroit has strung multiple wins together just four times; two straight in October, three straight in November, two straight in December, and this current two-game streak in January. The win streak isn’t likely to survive a road matchup against the New York Islanders on Tuesday, but it just might be able to match the season high of three straight wins with another strong effort in this one.
