The NHL offseason is dead at this point. Now in mid July, all the big insiders have flocked to their cottages and we are left getting excited over a Milan Lucic for James Neal swap. Ugh.
Its times like this where Summer hockey doesn’t sound like too bad of an idea. The World Junior Summer Showcase is right around the corner (spanning from July 26th to August 3rd) and that might just be the fix that die-hard fans need. Red Wings fans will be disappointed to hear that 2019 draft pick Robert Mastrosimone will not be participating due to an injury sustained at development camp. The USHL product was originally listed on the U.S. roster to play in Plymouth.
Mastrosimone, selected 54th overall by the Red Wings in the most recent draft, seems to be among the more popular of selections made by Detroit. He had a strong campaign with the Chicago Steel, playing a key role in their run to the USHL final. Initially I was planning to do a breakdown on Mastrosimone game, but with the desperation of hockey at an all-time high, I decided to make some shift-by-shift games instead. That way you can form your own opinion on the American winger, rather than read mine.
I hope this can give you a little bit of a taste on how the man nicked-named “Ducky” operates on the ice, with footage of most day-two drafted prospects scarce to the general public. In the three games below, Mastrosimone is number 24 in the black uniforms. The last two shift-by-shifts in particular are playoff games.
If this type of content receives a good reception, I may consider to do a few more of these for other Detroit prospects drafted in 2019.
