The Detroit PHWA chapter has selected Robby Fabbri as the Red Wings Masterton trophy nominee.
Fabbri, 24, joined the Red Wings in a November trade for fourth-line center Jacob de la Rose after scoring only one point, a goal, in nine games with St. Louis.
But he rebounded in the way the Wings were hoping as he scored 14 goals and 31 points in 52 games to close out the season.
“This year is just about getting my confidence back and kind of just proving to myself that I can still be the player that I was,” Fabbri said during the season.
“This is kind of the first year in a while where I’ve put some consecutive games together with some minutes. I’ve always believed in myself. I knew what I could have done (in St. Louis) if given the chance. That’s just the way of the business; and coming here just kind of gave me a refreshing start. I wanted to come in and prove to the guys here and to the fans that I can still do what I did in my first few years.”
The Masterton trophy is awarded annually by the PHWA to the player who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.”
Two Red Wings have won the award in the past: defenceman Brad Park in 1984 and Steve Yzerman in 2003.
