Remember When: Mike Vernon vs Patrick Roy

It was 20 years ago today when Mike Vernon and Patrick Roy squared off in one of the most epic goalie fights of all time. Thanks to our friends at HockeyFights.com, we’re able to relive the moment over and over again.

It’s almost strange to think that this fight happened 20 years ago. Back in the 90s, the Wings and Avalanche had some of the most heated playoff series of that era and there was no love lost between these two clubs. Case and point, the epic scrap shown above between goaltenders Mike Vernon and Patrick Roy. After Roy came flying out of his crease to join in the melee, Mike Vernon had no choice but to head into the mix to even up the score. The result was one of the most viewed fights on HockeyFights today.
