Red Wings recall Brattstrom from Grand Rapids under emergency conditions

By Mike Gould
1 year agoThe Detroit Red Wings announced on Thursday evening that they have recalled goaltender @Victor Brattstrom from the American Hockey League under emergency conditions.

With @Thomas Greiss and @Calvin Pickard now on the shelf, the Red Wings needed to recall a goaltender from AHL Grand Rapids to maintain a full roster going forward. Pickard made an early departure from Sunday’s 11–2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Brattstrom, 25, was a sixth-round selection of the Red Wings at the 2018 NHL Draft. In 20 appearances with the Griffins this season, the 6’4″ Swede has a 6–10–3 record and an .890 save percentage.
Of note: Brattstrom has posted a save percentage at or above .900 in eight of his last 12 AHL games, including a 35-save shutout against the Iowa Wild back on March 5.
Brattstrom is set to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights this summer. It remains to be seen whether he’ll play for the Red Wings during this recall, although he’ll likely serve as @Alex Nedeljkovic’s backup when the New York Rangers come to town on March 30.
