The Red Wings announced Sunday afternoon that three players were placed on waivers to go to the AHL, along with a slew of other players who were reassign. The three players were Dylan McIlrath, Matt Puempel, and…Luke Witkowski.
All three will have to pass though the waiver wire to make it to Grand Rapids. They should all go unclaimed, although some team out there may take a swing at Puempel.
The Witkowski one is quite surprising. Many fans – including myself – expected management to go with the gritty option instead of with a prospect. That ended up not being the case, as Swedish center Christoffer Ehn beat him out after a sneaky good preseason.
