Red Wings invite David Booth to training camp on PTO

6 years agoThe Red Wings are going to give Detroit-native David Booth an opportunity to resurrect his NHL career at training camp. According to Helene St James, the team has offered Booth a PTO contract to try out for the team.
Booth hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2014-15 season with the Toronto Maple Leafs and spent his last two seasons playing in the KHL. Last year with Omsk Avangard, the left winger scored four goals and four assists in 19 games in a season largely derailed by injury.
That’s pretty much been the theme of Booth’s career. Back in 2008-09 with the Florida Panthers, Booth put up 31 goals and appeared to be cementing himself as a solid scorer in the NHL. But the following season, Mike Richards drilled him with a blindside hit to the head, and Booth hasn’t been the same since.

It’s unlikely Booth, who turns 33 in November, will make an impact with the Red Wings in any capacity this season and his career as a NHL player is likely done, but this is a no-risk, nice gesture for a player who grew up in the Red Wings’ back yard.
