Red Wings at Wild | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Red Wings entered the first intermission against the Colorado Avalanche up 1-0 after scoring an early goal and getting 18 saves from Jimmy Howard. But Detroit’s dreams of an upset were short-lived as the Avalanche roared back to win 6-3, handing the Red Wings their fifth straight loss overall and their seventh straight loss on the road. Dylan Larkin had a goal and two assists and Tyler Bertuzzi had a goal and an assist in the loss; these two are battling for Detroit’s scoring lead with Bertuzzi entering Wednesday night with 36 points and Larkin right behind him with 35.
Through 50 games, Detroit has the worst record in the league by a considerable margin at 12-34-4 per the OddsShark NHL Database. The Red Wings’ 28 points are 13 behind the next worst team, the Los Angeles Kings.
Minnesota is just 3-6-1 over its last 10 games, falling to 22-21-6 on the season. Devan Dubnyk has been a rock in goal for the Wild in recent seasons, but this year he has lost his starting job due to an ugly 3.35 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage. The struggling veteran has lost four of his last five starts, but he’ll get the chance to turn things around with a start against the Red Wings.
Wednesday night’s total is set at six goals at online betting sites. The OVER is 8-3 in Detroit’s last 11 games against Central Division opponents.
Whether it’s Jimmy Howard or backup Calvin Pickard starting against Dubnyk, this matchup certainly won’t be mistaken for a goaltender’s clinic. Detroit showed some life on offense with three goals against Colorado and will need to have another good showing to pull off an upset in Minnesota.
