But while they found the game winner against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, on Thursday it was the Kings who came out on top with a 3-2 victory. With the overtime loss, the Red Wings fell to 7-12-2 on the season. They did extend their points streak to four games with a 3-0-1 record however, a vast improvement over the 1-11-1 the team went over its previous 13 games.

San Jose appeared to be on its way to a disastrous 2019-20 campaign after going 0-4 through its first four games and 4-10-1 through its first 15 games. But after scoring two goals or fewer in five straight games on an 0-5 slump that started in late October and crept into early November, the Sharks have exploded for 22 goals over their last five games and have compiled a perfect 5-0 record over that stretch. Only time will tell if the first 15 games were the anomaly to the season.

Both the Red Wings and the Sharks finished the month of October with identical 4-8-1 records. Detroit is 3-4-1 since then while San Jose is 5-2.
