The Detroit Red Wings are 1-6 on the moneyline in their last seven games against the New York Islanders. The Red Wings will try to turn their luck against the Islanders around with an upset on the road on Friday night.
Detroit is a +250 road underdog on the NHL odds in New York at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. New York (-300) has destroyed the Red Wings in the two meetings between these teams so far in 2019-20, winning 4-1 in Detroit in December and 8-2 at home in January.

Red Wings at Islanders | OddsShark Matchup Report

If only the Red Wings could play against the Montreal Canadiens every night. With their 4-3 win over the Canadiens on Tuesday night, the Red Wings improved to 4-0-0 against the Canadiens in 2019-20; this compared to an 11-43-4 record against every other team in the NHL. With no more games remaining on the schedule against the Canadiens, Detroit will need to find a new team from which to steal the occasional rare win.
Through 32 road games this season, the Red Wings are 5-25-2 per the OddsShark NHL Database. Detroit has lost each of its last five road games.
The Islanders wrapped up a disastrous four-game road trip with a 3-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night, failing to record a single point with four straight regulation losses. New York had gone 5-1-1 over its previous seven games and averaged 3.86 goals per game over that stretch before scoring only two goals in its last four games combined. Suddenly on the outside looking in for a playoff spot in the crowded Metropolitan Division, the Islanders have a golden opportunity to right the ship on a three-game homestand against Detroit, San Jose, and the New York Rangers.
Friday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at sports betting sites. The UNDER is 4-1 in New York’s last five games and 5-1-1 in Detroit’s last seven.
Should New York’s scoring woes carry over into this game, the Red Wings could have a shot at snapping their road losing streak on Friday. But if the first two games in this season series are any indication, holding the Islanders in check isn’t something this year’s Red Wings squad is well-equipped to do.
