The Red Wings jumped out to two separate leads against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night of 1-0 in the first period and 2-1 in the second period, but in the end they lost by a final score of 3-2 in regulation. The loss dropped Detroit’s road record on the season to a ghastly 5-22-2 that includes a current stretch of 1-10-1 over the Red Wings’ last 12 road games. Detroit also became the first team to hit 40 regulation losses in 2019-20; in fact, the Los Angeles Kings are the only other team in the league that has 30 regulation losses.
In their last six games, the Red Wings are 4-2 against the spread since going 1-6 ATS in their previous seven games per the OddsShark NHL Database.
New Jersey had a two-game winning streak and a six-game point streak snapped on Tuesday night with a 5-3 loss at home against the Florida Panthers. The Devils have one of the league’s worst home records at 8-10-10; they have earned more points than the Red Wings at home due to the overtime losses, but their 8-20 record on the moneyline is virtually the same as Detroit’s 9-20 home record on the moneyline. In 17 games as a betting favorite this season the Devils are 5-8-4.
Thursday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at sports betting sites. The UNDER is 5-1 in the last six games between the Red Wings and Devils.
Detroit has been playing well over its last four games, winning two of them and losing by only one goal on Tuesday night. New Jersey has the fourth worst record in the NHL and has struggled at home all season long; this is a winnable game for the Red Wings if they keep up their strong effort of late.
