Red Wings at Capitals | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Red Wings saw their surprising two-game winning streak come to an end on Tuesday night in a 5-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Detroit has now been held to two goals or less in 11 of its last 14 games, losing all but one of those 11 games. Facing Alexander Ovechkin and a Capitals offense that ranks second in the NHL in scoring with 3.42 goals per game, the Red Wings are going to need a big game on offense to have any shot at competing.
Seven of Detroit’s remaining 11 games will be played on the road. The Red Wings are 0-7 on the moneyline in their last seven road games and an abysmal 5-26-3 on the road in 2019-20 per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Back at the beginning of February, the Capitals were running away with the Metropolitan Division with a 36-13-5 record. But over their last 15 games, the Capitals are just 5-7-3, including two regulation losses to Philadelphia that have brought the Flyers to within one point of their division lead. Washington has historically been dominant at home, but this year the Capitals have actually been better on the road at 23-10-3 than they have at the Capital One Arena (18-10-5).
Thursday night’s total is set at six goals at sports betting sites. The OVER is 5-0 in Washington’s last five games at home.
On Wednesday, the NBA made the startling announcement that it would be suspending its regular season due to safety concerns around the coronavirus. The NHL announced that it was considering its options and would make a statement today; that statement could include NHL teams playing games without fans or the postponement of games. Hockey fans will need to closely monitor this situation as it unfolds.
