Red Wings at Blue Jackets | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Red Wings’ winning ways have came to a halt over the last week of action with three straight losses to teams with losing records in the Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, and Ottawa Senators. On the bright side for Detroit and its fans, the Red Wings have played five one-goal games over their current 3-2-1 run; a huge step up from the four straight losses by four or more goals that they suffered before these last six games. Anthony Mantha is having a breakout season with 12 goals and 10 assists through his first 23 games in 2019-20.
On the moneyline, Detroit is just 1-9 in its last 10 games on the road per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Columbus has snapped out of a 1-5-2 slump over its previous eight games with back-to-back wins at home over the St. Louis Blues and the Montreal Canadians. At 8-8-4 on the season, the Blue Jackets are adjusting to life this season without their leading scorer from 2018-19 in Artemi Panarin and their former franchise goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. Both have been sorely missed as Columbus is tied for the second worst offensive output in the NHL this season at 2.50 goals per game and ranks 21st in goals against average at 3.20.
Thursday night’s total is set at six goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 8-1 in Detroit’s last nine games against teams in the Metropolitan Division.
With a quarter of the season in the books, the Red Wings and the Blue Jackets look more likely to be in the running for the first pick in next year’s NHL Draft than they do to be in the playoffs. But both have been playing more competitively of late, and they’ll look to keep it that way with strong efforts on Thursday night.
