Red Wings at Blue Jackets | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Red Wings snapped a nine-game losing streak on Thursday night with a 4-3 shootout win on the road over the Buffalo Sabres. Dylan Larkin scored two goals in the first period to give Detroit the early lead, and the Red Wings eventually pulled off the upset as +180 underdogs. Jonathan Bernier made 29 saves and improved to 11-14-2 with the win; if he doesn’t get the start on back-to-back nights, Jimmy Howard will be in goal for Detroit on Friday. Howard is 2-20-2 with a 4.12 goals against average and an .884 save percentage in 2019-20.
Thursday night’s win over Buffalo was just Detroit’s fifth road win of the year. The Red Wings are 5-20-2 on the road this season per the OddsShark NHL Database.
John Tortorella deserves consideration for the Jack Adams Award as coach of the year for the masterful job he has done with this year’s Blue Jackets squad. Columbus has earned points in 23 of its last 25 games with an 18-2-5 run that includes a current 8-0-1 stretch over the team’s last nine games. Undeterred by the loss of franchise goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, the Blue Jackets rank second in the NHL in goals-against average allowing only 2.46 goals per game. The Blue Jackets are 5-0-0 in their last five games at home.
Friday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at sports betting sites. The UNDER is 8-2 in Columbus’ last 10 games.
Columbus has won eight of its last nine games overall and 10 of its last 11 games against the Red Wings. Detroit is playing in its second game of a back-to-back while Columbus has had the last two nights off. Reasons for optimism are hard to find ahead of this one.
