Michael Rasmussen, the Wings first top 10 pick since 1991 has just recently been added to the Canadian WJC Summer Development Camp roster.
This means he will be joining fellow Red Wings prospects Dennis Cholowski and Givani Smith in Plymouth Michigan to play for Team Canada at the World Junior Summer Showcase.
Being a late addition to an already crowded Canadian Roster will make it difficult for Rasmussen to shine. He’s most likely going to have to work hard to earn minutes, but it is still important he takes advantage of what ever ice time he’s given, as this camp gives him the opportunity to play at the 2018 World Junior Championships.
Taking part in this event should also be an indication that he has fully recovered from a fractured wrist he suffered back in March. During the Red Wings 2017 Prospects Development Camp, Rasmussen didn’t take part in a scrimmage because of his wrist, despite stating he was almost ready to go. The World Junior Summer Showcase is a very competitive event, as players are fighting for roster spots to represent their nation’s in Buffalo later this year, so it is doubtful Rasmussen would push his wrist for this, but not take part in the scrimmage, which was not that long ago.
Rasmussen is now 1 of 7 Wings prospects invited to the Summer Showcase. The other 6 are Dennis Cholowski, Givani Smith, Kasper Kotkansalo, Gustav Lindstrom, Filip Larsson, and Keith Petruzzeli.
