Jimmy Howard has hit one out of the ballpark with a newly-designed mask honouring some of the greatest figures in Detroit Tigers history.
The baseball-themed mask — unveiled in time for the 2016 Stadium Series game against the Colorado Avalanche — features images of Al Kaline, Kirk Gibson, Alan Trammell as well as broadcaster Ernie Harwell and manager Sparky Anderson.

Portraits of the Tigers greats are featured on both sides with the years of all four World Series championships listed on the top of the mask.
The back of the mask has a hardball with Howard’s No. 35 in the middle.
It’s a classy move by Howard, who struggled to start the season before losing the No. 1 job to Petr Mrazek.
In 19 starts, Howard has posted a 7-7-4 record with a 2.44 goals against average and .915 save percentage.
The Wings and Avs, who’ll meet outdoors on Feb. 28, will be the second of two Stadium Series matchups. The Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks will face off Feb. 21 at the University of Minnesota.
