In wake of the NHL’s season suspension amid the coronavirus pandemic, Ilitch Holdings will be accommodating their part-time staff who are out of work for the time being. Friday afternoon Ilitch Companies, which includes the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, 313 Presents, Fox Theatre, and Little Caesars Arena, announced they will be organizing a $1 million dollar fund for employees who were scheduled to work in the next month.
This includes part-time employees scheduled to work the Red Wings’ four remaining home games, the Detroit Pistons’ eight remaining home games, and the Tigers’ six remaining Spring Training games.
In addition, the Pistons’ Blake Griffin plans to donate $100K to compensate Little Caesars Arena workers, The Detroit News has reported.
Gestures like this are so heartwarming, especially coming at a difficult time for many around the globe. Other sports figures and organizations that plan to pledge money to event staff include the Anaheim Ducks, the Florida Panthers’ Sergei Bobrovsky, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love, and the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo.
