The Detroit Red Wings were 4-1 in their previous five games against the Carolina Hurricanes before losing both of their games against the Hurricanes this season. The Red Wings will try to get back to their winning ways against Carolina with a victory on Tuesday night at home.
Detroit is a +200 home underdog on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. Carolina (-240) has outscored the Red Wings 9-2 in the two meetings these two teams have had in 2019-20.
Hurricanes at Red Wings | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Red Wings pulled off a stunning upset on Sunday night as they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 in a shootout. It was a rare offensive explosion for Detroit as the Red Wings had averaged only 1.57 goals per game over their previous seven games heading into that one. Tyler Bertuzzi and Anthony Mantha each racked up a goal and three assists in the game to help lead Detroit to a second straight win.
With their victory over the Lightning, the Red Wings improved to 4-0 against the spread over their last four games per the OddsShark NHL Database. Detroit was 25-41 ATS on the season before this recent winning streak.
Carolina snapped out of a four-game losing streak with road wins on back-to-back nights over the New York Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins. At 37-25-5, the Hurricanes are in a tight race for a wild card spot in the crowded Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes rank 11th in the NHL in both goals for (with 3.16 per game) and goals against (allowing 2.85 per game); their goal differential is the fourth best in the East.
Tuesday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 6-2-1 in the last nine games between the Red Wings and Hurricanes.
It’s hard to deny that the Red Wings have been playing some good hockey over the last two weeks. Carolina has beaten Detroit in two different ways this season, defeating them in a defensive slugfest 2-0 in Detroit and in a wide-open 7-3 victory in Carolina. The Red Wings would likely prefer a low-scoring game in this one, but the offense should have some confidence coming off of its impressive showing against the Lightning.
