*Michael Scott voice* OH MY GOD! OKAY ITS HAPPENING! EVERYBODY STAY CALM! WHATS THE PROCEDURE?! STAY F—— CALM!
Per Max Bultman of The Athletic, the Red Wings plan to call-up Filip Zadina to make his NHL debut Sunday afternoon against the San Jose Sharks.
Zadina, the Red Wings first round pick from the 2018 NHL draft, has been on a tear as of late with the Grand Rapids Griffins. He is currently riding a 7 game point streak, which included an overtime game-winning goal, and he has recorded at least 4 shots in his last 4 games. He has been playing with much more confidence and is figuring out how to create space against men.
While Zadina’s first game will be very exciting from the fans perspective, I would have Tuesday circled on the calendar. Detroit will be playing the Montreal Canadians who as we all know passed on Zadina for Jesperi Kotkaniemi. Zadina would then later say he would “fill their nets with pucks.”
Upon Zadina’s arrival I would expect to see him in the top-6. Management has made it clear they see him succeeding most when paired with high-end players. While not official, I wonder if we will see Gustav Nyquist as a healthy scratch this game. This is because the following day is the NHL trade deadline. If he isn’t traded by then, the team may opt to sit him for precautionary reasons.
The Zadina era is about to get going, HockeyTown!
