As we close in on September, it’s that time of year for every outlet to publish their “Top” list. NHL Network has been running its Top Centers, Right Wings, Left Wings, Defensemen and Goalies lists since the beginning of the month, and now it’s EA Sports’ turn to announce its list.
On Tuesday, the video game company started releasing its Top 50 Players list for the upcoming NHL 20, available Sept. 13 for Xbox One and Playstation 4. A familiar face just cracked the list, coming in at No. 50.
Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin received an 88 overall rating, up four points from his 84 last season. The Waterford native scored 32 goals and added 41 assists in 76 games last season.
It’s good to see a Red Wing make the top 50 and no doubt exciting for Larkin to be one of the better players in the game.
I’m going to go out on a not-so-crazy limb and predict there will be no other Red Wings making the list (but I will update the post and eat crow should I be wrong). While Andreas Athanasiou also hit the 30-goal mark, his 54 points are well shy of Larkin’s 73. We may see a slight increase for Athanasiou and Anthony Mantha, but there is no way they will be rated 88 or higher.
But wait, there’s something just not quite right about the photo EA Sports used. Can you spot it?
There it is, thanks, Ryan.
