We talked earlier today about how Dylan Larkin has some pretty big shoes to fill in the history of Detroit Red Wings taking part in All-Star Game, and so far it appears that he’s done just that. Tonight, he set a new all-time best in the Fastest Skater competition.
Despite a partial collision on the penultimate corner, Larkin’s speed of 13.172 easily edged the mark of 13.386 set by Mike Gartner in 1996. The victory marks the third time that a Red Wings skater has won the fastest skater competition; Sergei Fedorov also led the pack in 1992 and 1994.
Larkin will also participate in the full-team skills relay and the third round of the three-part shootout before the end of the night.
