Something something don’t cry over spilled milk, it could’ve been beer. Well, this time it was beer, but the spillage amounted to something better than a buzz. Beer prices ain’t cheap, we’re all well aware of that, but I’d be willing to spend a day’s pay for a pint if it meant receiving a signed stick in return. One lucky fan had it work out just this way for him at last night’s game.

These two gents were taking some warmup selfies with the boys when Zetterberg finished stretching and bumped into the boards a couple of times, spilling their precious “The Red Wings aren’t making the post-season for the first time in 25 years and I need dis” juice everywhere. Luckily, they pointed it out to the culprit, who went over to the bench, grabbed a brand new stick and signed it with, “Sorry! I owe u one!” and slapped his autograph next to it.
Mike and Ryan wrote the following letter to the Ottawa Citizen explaining the situation:
“My buddy Mike and I were down against the glass for the warms ups last night in the Red Wings end… he had his beer sitting on the up against the glass as we were taking pics. When Hank was done stretching, he got up and banged into the boards a couple times. In doing so, Mike’s pint went smashing to the floor. We knocked on the glass to show him what happened as I got a kick out of it. Zetterberg started laughing! A few minutes later, he went over to the bench, grabbed one of his brand new game sticks and autographed it saying: “Sorry! I owe u one! (with his signature.) He skated over and tossed it over the glass to us! How classy is that guy!!! Amazing!”
I don’t know about you guys, but I’d gladly take that trade-off. I think it’s safe to say Mike and Ryan are certainly not crying about their spilled beer. If I were them, I’d be pushing for the “I owe u one!” — an off-season beer with Zetterberg? I think that’d do the trick in making up for it!
Kudos to Zetterberg for realizing just how expensive those beers are and replacing it with something even better! These are the stories we’re happy to focus on in this difficult time. Thanks for bringing us some laughs, Zetterberg, you’re a good man.
