Less than one month after losing Martin Frk on waivers, the Red Wings welcomed him back this afternoon.
With Ryan Murphy ready to return from injured reserve, the Hurricanes placed Frk on waivers on Monday and with the first priority (per the CBA) the Red Wings claimed him.
After claiming him, the Red Wings assigned him to Grand Rapids, which is allowed per the CBA.
Frk was a second round pick (49th overall) in 2012, but the two games that he played with the Hurricanes were the first two of his NHL career. Frk is not known as a great skater or two-way forward, but he possesses a great shot. The 23-year-old had 27 goals and 17 assists (44 points) in 67 games with the Griffins a season ago.
There were a lot of pundits who questioned the Red Wings’ handling of their young talent when they lost Frk and Teemu Pulkkinen, so re-acquiring Frk was a good way for Ken Holland to save face.
