It looks like the Red Wings may be without forward Darren Helm for a while after he left last night’s game with a lower body injury.
After taking a hit from Colorado defenseman Erik Johnson early in the second period, Helm was clearly in some discomfort as he was slow to get up. Helm was able to leave the ice unassisted but was noticeably favoring his left leg after the collision.
While Helm did return to the ice briefly to test out his injured leg he was not able to stay in the game, and the Red Wings announced that he would not return shortly after. Helm has been listed as day-to-day by coach Jeff Blashill.
This hasn’t been the kindest year for Helm as he already missed 28 games with a shoulder dislocation earlier in the year. So far this season, Helm has registered eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 42 games.
Meanwhile, Tomas Nosek was recalled on an emergency basis though it is not yet known for how long. It is possible that Nosek will be reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins if Helm’s left leg injury is manageable.
