With Mike Green and Niklas Kronwall out with injuries, the Red Wings weren’t exactly in position to lose another defenceman. Unfortunately, that very well may have been the case, as Danny DeKeyser suffered an injury involving his left leg during the third period against the Ottawa Senators.

The injury was the result of blocking a slapshot by Dion Phaneuf, who the Senators acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a nine-player deal on Tuesday morning. Phaneuf, who was repeatedly featured in trade rumours involving the Red Wings last year, was attempting to make an immediate impact with his new team in his first game. Unfortunately, he impacted DeKeyser’s leg more than he did the Senators.
Dekeyser limped off to the dressing room after struggling to get up. He did come back for a single shift a few minutes later but headed back to the room after testing himself out.
The Red Wings are currently up 2-0 in the closing minutes of the third period.
