For the first time in 33 seasons, the University of Michigan Wolverines are being lead by someone other than Red Berenson.
It was Mel Pearson who was selected to fill the shoes of Berenson, whom he served as an assistant coach under, and a major addition was added to his roster for the 2018-2019 season.
Bode Wilde was born in Montreal, Quebec and projects to be the big ‘Top Six power forward’ NHL GMs dream about. He will arguably be one of the biggest if not the biggest name to wear the maize and blue since Dylan Larkin.
Measuring up at 6’2 and 194 lbs, Wilde projects to be a two-way forward with some scoring edge to him.He recently flipped from Harvard to Michigan. Currently, Wilde is spending this season playing with the U18 USDP where he’s netted 3 points in his first game. Last season playing for the U17s, he registered 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) in 56 games.
While those numbers do not necessarily jump off the page, his skating does. He is an extremely strong skater and plays in both ends of the ice. He is known to be a pass first winger, but when he does shoot, his slapshot is deadly. Ideally he can be used in all situations on the penalty kill, power play and in a shutdown roll.
Unlike other two-way or power forwards, Bode uses his body, but does so in a clean and disciplined way. Besides his bantam year with Honeybaked, where he put up 87 PIMs his numbers are minimal. You can read up on the rest of his stats at eliteprospects.com.
In terms of highlights here are some of his highlights from last season playing in the USDP, along with suiting up with the U17 team in the 5 Nations Cup.

Currently Bode is projected to go in the first round of the upcoming NHL draft and is expected to be selected in the 7 to 10 range. Fans can likely expect to see Bode in December and January where he is projected to suit up for the U.S. on the international stage.
