For the second year running, Jeff Blashill, will be the bench boss for the Red, White and Blue at the World Championships.
Blashill will be joined by Dan Bylsma, Don Granato and Seth Appert behind the bench. The United States featured several ties to the Red Wings last season (Larkin, Howard and Dekeyser) and Larkin-at the least-is expected to be on the roster this year. While it isn’t an “expectation”, it is plausible-with Blashill at the helm-that Larkin could don the “C” for Team USA.
In somewhat surprising fashion (especially to Red Wings fans), Blashill-who was making his international head coaching debut-directed the Americans to a 6-1 record in group play last year; though they ultimately fell 2-0 to Finland in the Quarterfinals.
This year the World Championships will run from May 4-20 in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark; Team USA is slated to play in Group B, which includes: Germany, Korea, Latvia, Canada, Finland, Norway and –with home ice advantage-Denmark. The tournament starts with a tough match against rival, Canada on Friday May 4th at 10:15 a.m. in Herning.
