Blackhawks vs Red Wings | OddsShark Matchup Report
Jonathan Bernier struggled in his first game back from injury when he allowed seven goals on 32 shots against the Nashville Predators last Thursday. He returned to form on Monday night with one of his best performances of the year as he turned away 37 of the 38 shots he faced in a 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Detroit improved to 5-3-2 over its last 10 games with the win and are riding a two-game winning streak after sweeping the Hurricanes. The Red Wings are now 9-7 in Bernier 16 starts this season. Bernier is 4-2 over his last six starts.
Brandon Hagel scored in overtime on Monday night to give the Blackhawks their second straight 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Before those two wins, Chicago was just 4-9-0 over its previous 13 games and was averaging only 2.07 goals per game over that stretch. Patrick Kane (14 goals and 40 assists) and Alex DeBrincat (21 goals and 20 assists) have been fantastic this season, but overall the Blackhawks have been underwhelming on offense in 2021 averaging 2.79 goals per game.
Thursday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 4-2 in Detroit’s last six games at home.
Despite their recent struggles, the Blackhawks are still in the hunt for a playoff spot at 20-18-5 as they enter Thursday’s action just four points behind the Nashville Predators for the fourth spot in the Central Division. The Red Wings will have two shots to play spoiler as they host the Blackhawks on Thursday night and Saturday night in the final two regular season games between these two clubs. Chicago is 5-1 in their six meetings with the Red Wings in 2021.
