Detroit Red Wings forward @Tyler Bertuzzi has reached the 20-goal plateau for the third time in his National Hockey League career.
The 26-year-old winger scored to get his team within two goals of the Chicago Blackhawks midway through the second period of Wednesday’s contest at Little Caesars Arena.
With the Red Wings trailing 4–1, Bertuzzi took a pass from @Filip Hronek just inside the offensive blue line and fired a shot toward @Marc-Andre Fleury.
After the Chicago goaltender punched out a rebound on the initial shot, Bertuzzi pounced on the loose puck and fired it into the net to make it a 4–2 hockey game. Hronek picked up the lone helper on Bertuzzi’s 20th goal of the 2021–22 season.
Bertuzzi has now scored 20 goals in a season three times in his career, which has spanned parts of the last six seasons (and, at this point, only three full ones). He scored 21 goals in 73 games in the 2018–19 season and followed it up with 21 more in 71 contests the following year.
With his goal on Wednesday, Bertuzzi now sits just one goal shy of his career-best mark in 36 fewer games.
After going down 4–0 in the first period, the Red Wings scored four unanswered goals in the second period to cut Chicago’s lead to 4–3. @Robby Fabbri and @Pius Suter also tallied for Detroit in the middle frame.
The score remains 4–3 after 40 minutes of play on Wednesday.
