Avalanche at Red Wings | OddsShark Matchup Report

The Red Wings broke a streak of four straight losses by at least two goals with a competitive effort against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night, but they eventually fell short in the shootout for a 4-3 loss. Even after earning a point for the overtime loss, Detroit is still on pace to finish the season with only 43 points; a mark that would fall five points below Colorado’s 48-point season in 2016-17 as the worst since the 2004-05 lockout. Detroit can only hope that its historically bad season eventually produces a team like the one that the Avalanche have now.
In their last four games against Western Conference opponents, the Red Wings are 0-4 both straight up and against the spread including a 6-3 loss to the Avalanche per the OddsShark NHL Database.
Colorado has reeled off six straight wins to improve to 39-18-7 on the season, currently sitting just three points behind the St. Louis Blues with two games in hand for the best record in the Western Conference. With an offense that ranks third in the NHL with 3.44 goals per game and a top-five defense allowing only 2.67 goals per game, the Avalanche have a +49 goal differential on the season that is second only to the Boston Bruins at +51. The Avalanche are 22-9-2 on the road in 2019-20.
Monday night’s total is set at 5.5 goals at online betting sites. The UNDER is 7-0 in Colorado’s last seven games on the road.
Considering that Detroit has two wins over the NHL-best Boston Bruins this season, you can never say never in professional sports. But producing another competitive effort like the one they did against Ottawa is going to be very difficult for the Wings to pull off against the Avalanche.
