The Red Wings season from hell continues as another player can be added to the injury list. Andreas Athanasiou, one of this year’s few bright spots, will remain out of the lineup this weekend with some undisclosed mystery injury.
Drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 draft, Athanasiou has broken onto the scene this season, producing 18 goals and 11 assists over 64 games in his first full year with the big club.
Coming up from Grand Rapids in his place will be Matt Lorito, a small, skilled, undrafted forward who’s put up and impressive 54 points in 59 games at the AHL level this season. Lorito, who’s 26 years old, isn’t really a prospect at this point. He played four seasons  with Brown university, and this year is his second in the AHL. That said, his AHL numbers have been strong, and he could be an interesting choice to play on a rebuilding Wings team next season if he can impress in his NHL debut.
