AHLTV allows fans to watch first two Grand Rapids Griffins games for free

Want to follow the Grand Rapids Griffins as they begin the 2018-19 season on the road? You’re in luck.

The American Hockey League announced its streaming platform, AHLTV, will be free for the opening weekend, Oct. 5-8.

Anyone with an AHLTV account can watch all 27 games without a subscription.

The list of games includes the Griffins’ first game of the season Friday against the Texas Stars, as well as its second game against the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday. Both games begin at 8 p.m. EDT.

Fans will be able to see Filip Zadina, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 NHL draft, who took part in his first practice with the Griffins on Monday after the Detroit Red Wings assigned him to Grand Rapids on Sunday.

Zadina had two goals and an assist in seven preseason games with the Red Wings, but Detroit opted to send Zadina to Grand Rapids so he can work on creating space for himself and his confidence.

Other notable prospects include Dominic Turgeon, Givani Smith and Vili Saarijarvi.

Last month, the AHL announced the creation of AHLTV, which will feature live streaming of every AHL game in high definition on computer, tablet and mobile devices, as well as Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast and Android TV.
