Dropped very casually in today's Bobcast, @TSNBobMcKenzie said that Pat Verbeek will be leaving Tampa Bay to join Yzerman as his right-hand man in Detroit. Expects news to roll out fairly soon.

As tweeted by Winged Wheel Podcast’s Ryan Hana, TSN’s Bob McKenzie casually mentioned on the Bobcast that current Tampa Bay Lightning Assistant General Manager Pat Verbeek will be returning to Detroit to become GM Steve Yzerman’s right-hand man. You can listen to the clip starting at the 32:59 mark.
Verbeek played for the Red Wings in the 1999-00 and 2000-01 seasons then later joined the organization as a pro scout, a position he held for four years before leaving with Yzerman for Tampa.
Verbeek’s profile has risen during his time in Tampa to the point where he’s starting to get interviews for GM openings, like he did for the one in Edmonton. Bringing Verbeek back into the fold is a real solid start for Yzerman, who will be rebuilding a front office that has has dealt with a notable loss of talent this decade.
